About INITIATE

Transformation of higher education institutions towards strengthen R&I and scientific excellence

INITIATE is a transformative project aimed at strengthening research and innovation (R&I) in European higher education institutions. Using a collaborative and inclusive approach, the project focuses on institution-wide changes through stakeholder engagement and co-design methodologies. By considering current institutional needs, policy constraints, and successful practices, INITIATE aims to create a tailored approach for R&I development.

Implemented through an iterative process and R&I Labs with online tools like the Knowledge Hub, INITIATE seeks to generate policy recommendations for R&I excellence in Widening countries. Demonstration phases will take place in Croatia, Portugal, and North Macedonia, leading to the development of a roadmap for long-term R&I adoption. The project envisions the creation of an Alliance for green energy transition to ensure sustained impact.

With a specific focus on universities in Widening countries, INITIATE targets institutional reform, empowering them to be change agents and fostering a culture of scientific excellence. Engaging both universities and local ecosystems, INITIATE aims to make lasting contributions, particularly in less research-intensive institutions and countries, advancing R&I in Europe.
